Keeping the Church Alive

We have now come to the end of the official period of our ‘Keeping the Church Alive’ campaign and I would like to thank everyone who contributed, financially, physically and spiritually to its success.

Success can be measured in many ways. In financial terms we have reached 72% of our regular weekly giving target, which whilst great news means there is still some way to go. However we have also received a number of very generous one-off donations, which reflect just how much the churches mean to many of you. The campaign events were also a success and a number will hopefully become annual events. The Pet Service in particular, which saw the inaugural performance of the Bardsey Youth Choir, is worthy of mention, not least for the good behaviour of the congregation. We are very grateful for the support that everyone gave to these events.

Our theme for the joint thanksgiving service that was held on Sunday 19 June was ‘Sharing the Load’, reflecting the need for everyone to be involved in securing the future of our village Churches. The sharing of a picnic symbolising how we each need to contribute, in different ways, to ensure the Churches remains viable and prospers. It is not the work of a few individuals that will secure our future but the combined efforts of the whole community.

Many of you will have seen the jigsaw puzzles at the back of each Church, depicting the life of the Churches, these are being used as barometers to show how well we are progressing towards achieving our financial goal. In total there are 80 pieces with a piece being added each time we move a step closer to achieving our goal. The jigsaws will not be fully completed until we reach our weekly income target.

May I encourage you to continue your support for the work that is being done to preserve our Churches and I look forward to putting the final piece in the puzzle.

The Reverend Chris Puckrin
